I got a chance to spend a couple days in Vegas with friends at WPPI and was able to do some shooting. I will be out of town this coming week for some shoots in NYC and some personal shooting. I had the awesome opportunity today to join Christy & Clint today on one of the best days of their life, the birth of their first child (I was there for the other one... you may remember their beautiful wedding on the beach). I was so honored to be with them and their families for the amazing event. Christy ended up having to have a c-section and they picked me to go in alone with Clint (what an honor!). I tried to shoot everything leading up to the actual birth with my M8 and took out the Nikon when things started moving fast. It was really an amazing day and I wanted to share a few. A quick story before the images... When I first got to the hostpital they weren't sure what the name of their boy would be so they had a chart with votes up in the room. Christy had left it up to Clint on what his name would be and all the way until they walked into the deliver room he still had not told anyone. One of my favorite images was when the nurse asked Clint what his name would be right before the birth and he said, "His name is Wade Landry Santangelo." Christy turned and looked at him at the same time and I snaped an image quickly. This is the first image of many....

I did something completely against my norm this week and actually took an entire day off to myself... Surprising huh (at least to my wife). Jamie Orillion & I had a blast taking off and getting out of town. It was so good to get behind the camera with no real agenda and I am super excited going into the rest of my shoots this week! Hurricane Gustav - A visual story

Yesterday I had the chance to shoot a bit in a couple of the harder hit areas that were affected by Gustav. It was amazing talking to the people down there and the common thread among everyone was hope. I am working on a slideshow with audio interviews, but I wanted to be able to give a quick preview.... This shot is of a priest who is praying inside of the steeple that blew off his church during the storm.

Jen & I had an opportunity to help out a little bit this week at United Way working with Food Net to put together food boxes for areas that were hit hard with the hurricane. This week has been a bit crazy since the hurricane and it was great to get out and help a little bit. I just wanted to share a little bit since I didn't get a chance to shoot much this week until today. Random m8 shots of the week - New Orleans

I was down in New Orleans this weekend for the weekend and had the chance to shoot a bit of personal work while I was down there. The first image is of someone who Ben & I met at a coffee shop in the quarter. We probably sat and talked to him for over an hour about his life, his tattoos, Vietnam, and how agent orange had taken his leg. It was amazing to hear his story and his outlook on life. One thing that stuck with me was how he dealt with everything in loosing his leg. He said that he could not understand why people wait to really enjoy ever day until they had some sort of serious illness or major life altering event. For him loosing his leg just made him appreciate his life more. The first shot is one of Billy. Blessings. Jason

Back Home...

It is hard to believe that I was in Kansas less than 36 hours ago and that our trip came to a close almost as quickly as it started. If I can think of one word to sum this trip up it is: refreshed. It was almost like though all of the shooting/editing/emailing I had begun to forget why I do this and every day became routine. I was reminded by everyone of my love for picking my camera and shooting the things that I pass up every day that are beautiful. Thanks again to Jamie & Ben for joining me on this trip and the Domingues family for treating us like their own family. Blessings. Jason
